Update: 03/29/10: The developers at Linkedin have completed several updates on their iPhone app the latest from 03/16/10. There were numerous changes made that make this app easy to use when you are away from your main computer. The user interface has had a huge overhaul and is extremely easy to use.
Once you enter the new Linkedin iPhone app you will be at a dashboard which has virtual tabs for all updates, status, profile, discussions, connections, favorites, inbox, invitations, recents, reconnect, in person, and themes to select from. The breadth of new functionality in this app came out before the 03/16/10 update, but there was some quirkiness, specifically with the ability to download all connections to your iPhone contacts and a few other features. There is no quirkiness whatsoever now! This app has no issues that I could find for the current features offered.
A couple of the highlight features of this app are the “in person” bluetooth linking capability and the “reconnect” function. The “in person” capability will let you link to others with this iPhone app to share information, etc while in the same vicinity, perhaps a conference, etc. The “reconnect” function is a contact add function that takes away the requirement to have to validate your request for a connection. The contacts that are under this tab are usually 2nd level or group contacts. The themes tab is a user interface color pallet change opportunity where you can select from a spectrum of colors to change the basic color of the UI.
The updated Linkedin app is FREE and receives 4.5 out of 5 CrazyMikes Head’s, add groups into this app and it gets 5 out of 5. CM

Linkedin is one of the most popular social networking communities with over 48 million users. But, the Linkedin iPhone app leaves a whole lot to be desired. Linkedin for the iPhone and iPod Touch misses the mark on several useful features that one would want from this app. What’s missing: Ability to manage your profile, full invitation capabilities, group usage, etc. Pretty much the only thing you can do with the Linkedin app is view your connections updates, view your connection’s updates, update your status, and search your connections (whoopee). The functionality you have from this app basically is pretty horrible for a huge website like Linkedin. Honestly, you are better off to access the website from your mobile browser on your iPhone for a more robust experience while mobile on Linkedin. Sorry, Linkedin I am a big fan but your iPhone app “sucks.” CM
