Invaders World Tour iPhone App Review | Galaxian/Space Invader Mash Up!

Growing up in the 80′s was awesome as was the birth of video games during this time. Asteroids, Defender, Space Invaders, Galaga, Galaxian, Berzerker, Centipede, and the like kept me busy most days. These games were all arcade style stand up machine video games that cost a quarter to play. Today some of the original developers of those games are bringing the previously mentioned arcade games to the iPhone and iPad (most excellent). Besides these old games being ported over by developers something interesting is happening with the old style arcade games. Some developers are mashing up or reinventing games based on the classic 80′s arcade games. Invaders World Tour iPhone game developed by Me YouMe is mashup of Space Invaders and Galaga (Galaxian) game play.

How the game plays:

1) Space Invaders movement of enemies (side to side)
2) Enemies have a close resemblance to Galxian and Galaga enemies in appearance
3) Enemies dive bomb attack in true Galaxian/Galaga game play style

As soon as I began to play I got the feel of a mix of game play between Galaga/Galxian and Space Invaders. The game play is quick with a lot of dive attacking by enemies. They fly towards you every few seconds and shoot as they dive bomb you. There is also a pesky space ship (asteroid esque) that haunts you from above dropping bombs. On the upside some of the bombs the space ship drops are upgrades, which will help you (worm hole, time riper, ice raider and more). The shields are a great help, but they disappear rather quickly leaving you naked and unprotected (no need for a condom). I quickly jammed up to the 8th level of 60 and then got slaughtered. Invaders World Tour was very easy to learn how to play and costs only $0.99. Game play is challenging and not sure if I will ever make it to level 60.
