The iPhone Causes Key Revenue Metrics To Increase For AT&T

July 25, 2009 by CM · View Comments

It is no surprise that the iPhone is kicking the crap out of almost every smartphone platform out there. The Rim (Blackberry) platform is hanging tough in the United States, but the iPhone is reigning supreme in Japan, which is usually a good technological barometer. The iPhone will continue to dominate in the United States if Apple continues to think outside of the box. Apple has the it’s competitors on the ropes, mostly due to the iTunes App Store. Apple needs to take advantage of the head start they have in this platform and capitalize by working on the hardware of the iPhone (take it to the next level). If Apple does this the iPhone will be the first “smartcomputer” or “handtop”. I can’t wait to see how the smartphone platform looks a year from now. 07/25/09, CM

CHART OF THE DAY: Why AT&T Loves The iPhone
Dan Frommer|Jul. 24, 2009, 2:45 PM

Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone has led huge growth for Apple, but it’s also been a savior to AT&T (T), its exclusive U.S. carrier.

Apple’s loyal customer base and the iPhone’s mandatory $30/month data plan have helped AT&T improve two key metrics since the phone launched two years ago:

Its average monthly data revenue per subscriber has jumped 56% to $14.57. (Arch rival Verizon’s has grown slower.)
Its churn rate — the rate at which customers dump AT&T for other carriers — has improved 17%. (Verizon’s has gotten worse.)
