Trucker app by Infomedia Inc. may not be the sexiest app in the iTunes App Store, but for the money it is one of the most informative apps available. Allen Smith of Askthetrucker.com was the driving force behind the knowledge placed into this app. I originally took a look at the Trucker app to help debug it as a favor. However, once I started to play with this app I was throughly impressed with it. The amount of information that this app makes available to truckers is amazing. Trucker app opens up to a home screen with a scenic photo provided by a different trucker each day. There are four main tabs on the bottom of the home screen: news, events, media, and Twitter. There is also a bar button on the home screen, which allows access to a Driver Resource page. The information tabs at the bottom of the home screen provide several different methods to keep truckers informed of trucker news, relevant trucker events and trucker happenings on Twitter. I can only guess that the media tab, which has plenty of entertaining Youtube videos was put into this app to help with the occasional trucker down time. The Trucker app could stop there and be worth $.99, but it does not. This app has a link from a bar button on the home screen as mentioned earlier, which links to the Driver Resource page. The information provided by the Driver Resource page is extensive. There is information from individual listings of Departments of Transportation (DOT) for each state in the US, official truck links, trucker services, PDF files with specific detailed trucker resource information, security information, time zones, etc. There are tabs on this resource page for locating trucks stops, obtaining repair services, truck driver hours of operations regulations, and on and on. If I had a trucking company I would want all of my drivers to have an iPhone with this app. Trucker app works on iPhone and iPod Touch 2.0 and sells for $.99 in the iTunes App Store. CM
